At some point LibreOffice began asking for my password. I blew it off since I don't use it often, but finally decided to nip this in the bud.
Only the LibreOffice entry in the menu asks for it. The 6 entries for Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math and Writer don't ask for it.
How do I remove the password requirement. =

Is there a configuration file in ~/.config/LO (I'm not sure what the application is called there, maybe libreoffice?)?

It gets complicated. In /.config/libreoffice/4/user there are 11 folders and a file called registrymodifications.xcu. That file contains 25 separate references to prop oor:name="Password" but I don't know if it's worth it to change any of that or what I would change it to, or if this has anything to do with it IRC chat #libreoffice I posted this and no response from anyone in over a week. The channel is really dead.

I'm still stuck in root land. I haven't bothered with their IRC channel. It is so dead. Ok I just checked. I'm still the only person to have said something since middle of March. A remnant of an earlier internet no doubt. We are too cool for IRC these days

Ok what ever the deal was seems to be fixed by changing directory permissions from root to kev in home/kev/.cache
There were 3 directories like that called dconf, doc and gvfs. I read there should be no root permissions in home no matter what.
sudo -i in terminal, go to .cache and fix each directory permission
sudo chown -R kev:kev dconf
and so forth.
P.S. This certainly didn't come from LibreOffice channel. It was something read on Mint forums.

Somebody else had the same root problem in home directory, but there were like 20 of them. It seemed best to just wave the magic wand over the entire directory:
sudo chown -R doh:doh ~/
